Meet Dr. Erika Napolitano
Leadership is too important to rely on theory alone-and too complex to rely on experience alone.
Research-Informed Leadership
As a doctor of education in educational leadership, researcher, and lifelong practitioner, I believe the strongest leaders combine research-informed strategies with real-world experience. My work bridges both, helping leaders make practical decisions grounded in research while navigating the realities of leading people every day.
Two Decades of Leadership Experience
For more than two decades, I've dedicated my career to education and leadership, serving in roles that have allowed me to teach, coach, develop teams, lead organizations, and conduct leadership research. My career has given me the privilege of seeing leadership at its very best-but it's also shown me the lasting damage poor leadership can cause.
Understanding the Impact of Leadership
I've watched talented people lose confidence—not because they lacked ability, but because they weren't valued and leadership failed to provide the clarity, support, and culture they needed to succeed. I've seen organizations where communication was unclear, expectations were inconsistent, and people who genuinely wanted to make a difference slowly lost sight of their purpose.
The Foundation of My Leadership Philosophy
Those experiences shaped my philosophy of leadership and ultimately became the catalyst for Manatee Leadership. They reinforced a belief that has remained constant throughout my career: Leadership has the power to transform lives.
A Belief in Meaningful Leadership
I believe people deserve the opportunity to do meaningful work, contribute to something bigger than themselves, and leave each day knowing they made a difference. When leaders create clarity, cultivate trust, and genuinely care about people, individuals thrive, organizations become stronger, and communities are better because of it.
Creating the Foundation Effect
That belief inspired the creation of Manatee Leadership and The Foundation Effect, a practical framework for developing courageous leaders, strengthening organizations, and creating lasting impact.
Leadership Begins With People
But my passion for leadership didn't begin with a title. It began with people. As a wife, mom of two incredible boys, lifelong athlete, educator, and learner, I've experienced firsthand the power of strong leadership-and the lasting impact it has on individuals, families, organizations, and communities. Those experiences continue to shape how I coach, teach, and partner with leaders today.
A Commitment to Developing Leaders
Whether I'm working with an emerging leader, a school, a nonprofit, or an organization navigating change, my commitment remains the same: To develop courageous leaders who strengthen relationships, build thriving organizations, and create lasting impact.
Leadership Experience & Credentials
I believe the strongest leaders combine research-informed strategies with real-world experience. My experiences across athletics, education, research, and organizational leadership have shaped a philosophy that leadership is both an art and a science-grounded in evidence, strengthened through experience, and measured by the positive impact we have on others.
Over more than two decades of leading, coaching, teaching, researching, and developing people, one belief has remained constant:
Leadership has the power to transform lives.
Today, every coaching conversation, consulting partnership, and leadership development experience is grounded in both evidence-based research and practical leadership experience.
Leadership has been a constant thread throughout my life—from serving as captain of a Division I athletic team to coaching collegiate athletes, leading organizations, conducting research, and developing leaders across multiple sectors.
Before leading schools and organizations, I competed as a Division I student-athlete and served as captain of the University of Richmond Field Hockey Team. I later coached Division I athletics at both the University of Richmond and Virginia Commonwealth University. Those experiences taught me invaluable lessons about teamwork, accountability, resilience, communication, and developing people to perform at their highest potential.
Over the past two decades, those same principles have continued to shape my work as an educator, organizational leader, researcher, and coach. Whether strengthening organizational culture, developing future leaders, leading change, or partnering with organizations through complex challenges, I've found that intentional leadership creates the conditions where people and organizations thrive.
